An investigation on FG for the surrounding Texas counties of Upshur, Smith, Rusk, Harrison, and Panola counties, as well as Gregg finds no burial location. Perhaps as more cemeteries are mapped, his burial location will be found.

After the death of Catherine, James married Tennessee King 11 July 1869 in Panola County, Texas.

James is listed in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census for Panola County Texas.

James Lewis Matthews will was probated December 23, 1887 in Gregg County, Texas. Gregg County has nothing on his will, nor could they find out anything about a death date. They must have had a good witness protection program back then.

Tennessee King: born 1850, died 1900 in Gregg County, Texas. No burial location for her has been found. James and Tennessee had 4 children together, all born in Panola County.
