Mark Deming Coffman

Mark Deming Coffman, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at his residence in Franklin. He was a former resident of Hopewell Township and Nineveh.

He was born May 7, 1912, in Nineveh. His parents were Jacob and Stella (Tearman) Coffman. He married Helen Murray on Oct. 31, 1937, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Samuel G. Coffman of Franklin; a brother, Paul Young Coffman of Franklin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Thomas Coffman in 1989; two brothers, Lloyd Coffman and Lawrence Coffman; and a granddaughter, Margaret Helen Coffman in 1999.

He was a 1930 graduate of Hopewell High School, where he was on the basketball team and was known as "Hotshot Coffman."

He was employed for 55 years as an inspector at Arvin Industries and worked as a sales clerk at Vawter's Hardware and Deer & Son Hardware, all in Franklin, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin and a charter member of the Franklin Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served as secretary.

The Rev. Paul Shikany will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Franklin, and was a charter member and secretary of Franklin Junior Chamber of Commerce.
