Gladys L. (Ellis) Cochran, 90, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a resident of Trafalgar.

She was born July 20, 1913, in Gravel Switch, Ky. Her parents were Frank B. and Anna (Whitehouse) Ellis. She married Frank E. Cochran on Sept. 14, 1931, in Martinsville. He preceded her in death March 18, 1996. Survivors include a son, Keith Cochran of Trafalgar; a daughter, Patty Miller of Indianapolis; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a caregiver, Betty King of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther, Ronnie and Edgar Ellis; and five sisters, Beulah Smith, Ethel Smith, Margaret Wirey, Dean Young and Leva Noe.

She was a homemaker and was employed by the Franklin United Methodist Home as a caregiver and by Franklin College as a salad chef, both during the 1960s.

She was a member of Rocklane Christian Church and attended Mount Carmel Christian Church for more than 40 years. She was a member of Mount Carmel Ladies Aid and enjoyed visiting area nursing homes to take home-baked cookies to residents.

The Rev. Jerry Pittman will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Gladys Ellis Cochran, 90, Trafalgar, died Jan. 5, 2004, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

The daughter of the late Frank B. and Anna (Whitehouse) Ellis, she was born July 20, 1913, in Gravel Switch, Ky. She was the widow of Frank E. Cochran, whom she married Sept. 14, 1931 in Martinsville. He died March 18, 1996.

Cochran worked as a caregiver at the Methodist Home in Franklin and as a salad chef at Franklin College, both during the 1960s.

She was a member of the Rocklane Christian Church and attended Mount Carmel Christian Church for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Mount Carmel Ladies Aid and enjoyed visiting area nursing homes and taking baked cookies to the residents.

Survivors include a son, Keith Cochran, Trafalgar; a daughter, Patty Miller, Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Lori Owens and a great-grandson, Josh Owens.

Three brothers, Luther, Ronnie and Edgar Ellis, and five sisters, Beulah and Ethel Smith, Margaret Wirey, Dean Young and Leva Noe, preceded her in death.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. The Rev. Jerry Pittman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
