Maude A. Houlihan of Binghamton

Maude A. Houlihan, 97, of Binghamton, went to be with her Lord on November 24, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry S. and Cora Mae (Hill) Atwater; sisters, Francis Atwater, Ethel Graham and Martha Hartley; brother, Ralph Atwater; husbands, Raymond Parke and James Houlihan. Maude is survived by her son, Robert Parke Sr. (Shirley); granddaughter, Cathy Slocum; grandsons, Robert Parke Jr. (Cathy), Mike Parke (Linda), and John Parke (Toni); six great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Maude retired from Ozalid with 37 years of service. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish where she participated in the founding of St. Francis' 50+ Club, a member of St. Francis' Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteered in many of the church's organizations. Maude was a Lourdes Hospital Volunteer for 28 years and a member of Catholic Daughters. The family wishes to thank all who visited Maude and brought her great consolation; especially Sister Karen, her many friends from St. Francis, and her longtime acquaintances. Thanks to the nurses and aides in Hill Top Assisted Living and in the James G. Johnston Nursing Home for their extraordinary and compassionate care given to Maude.
In keeping with Maude's wishes, her remains have been donated to the Upstate Medical Anatomical Gift Program for research and education. Donations in Maude's memory can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Memorial Fund, or Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY 13850. A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Saint Francis of Assisi RC Church, 1031 Chenango Street, Binghamton. The family will welcome friends at the church at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Expressions of sympathy for the family may be forwarded to [email protected].
