Anthony Wayne Butler, 58, of Griffin, husband of Joyce Sue McWaters Butler, passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2020, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Born in Griffin, April 3, 1961, he was a son of Franklin Anthony “Tony” Butler and the late Emma Ruth Gray Butler. He was a 1979 graduate of Griffin High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during his senior year of high school and was stationed in Fort Ord, California, where he proudly served three years as a Tactical Wire Operations Specialist, earning several awards during his time served. He was employed with Clayton County Water Authority as a backflow supervisor for many years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, boating, grilling and bonfires. Mr. Butler had a humorous character that he expressed to everyone he came into contact with and loved making people laugh, especially his co-workers. He just naturally seemed to shine and make friends. He was well-liked and seemed to light up any room just by walking in. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan! He was loved and will be missed by his family and many friends.

Mr. Butler was a member of Union Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Joshua Brady.

Surviving in addition to his wife and best friend of 37 years and father and stepmother Lanette Butler of Griffin, are his beautiful daughters, Chasity Bates and husband Kevin of Zebulon and Kaylee Fleming and husband Jared of Griffin; and three grandsons that he adored, Mason Bates, Maddox Bates and Jaxton Fleming. He was awaiting his fourth grandchild that is due in November. His brother, Tim Butler and wife Tracey of Zebulon; sisters, Denise Brady and husband Ronnie of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Kim Williams and husband Tommy of Concord; beloved fur baby Trixie; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Anthony Wayne Butler will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Dr. S. Ed Hoard and the Rev. Mark Tuggle officiating. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
