She was born February 21, 1928, in Sabine Parish, daughter of the late Arch P. Wedgeworth and Sirena Lovelady Wedgeworth.
Eloise was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert Clenard “R.C.” Thomas, daughter Janice Marie Thomas; four brothers, Lee Henry Wedgeworth , Leonard Preston Wedgeworth, Orbon Clifford Wedgeworth, Wiley Paul Wedgeworth, and two sisters, Maida Esther Wedgeworth Lightfoot and Vera Clara Wedgeworth Slaughter.
She was a beloved “Mamaw” and “Gigi” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She began her career in Teaching after graduating from Nicholls State University in 1975, beginning at Grand Isle, La. and eventually retiring from Negreet High School. She loved her students and dearly enjoyed teaching. Those who knew her knew that she was forever giving to her family and those around her. She was a strong, beautiful, selfless soul who was determined and fiercely independent, even to the very end. She will be missed every day. She often recounted how her mother instilled in her a love for animals. She was never without a faithful pet by her side.
Eloise is survived by one son; Robert Gary Thomas Sr. and wife, Bonnie House Thomas of San Antonio, Tx; five grandchildren; Gary Thomas Jr. and wife, Paula Mizell Thomas of Many, La., Jason Fruge of Shreveport, La., Janessa Elois Fruge-Montecino and husband, Glenn R. Montecino of Bossier City, La., Dylan Thomas and wife, Belle Thomas of San Antonio, Tx., Britton Thomas and wife, Abbie Thomas of San Antonio, Tx.; and nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020, at Oakhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Many, La., with Brother Brian Gilcrease officiating.
Eloise’s family will serve as pallbearers.
Her family extends a special thanks to Dr. Self and the wonderful nursing staff at The Carpenter House for their loving kindness and caring for Mamaw during her stay in hospice.
