Charlie was born on December 14, 1927 in Chesterfield, Illinois, the son of Thomas and Lula May Houseman Rodgers.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Charlie was the janitor for the Shelbyville Post Office until his retirement in 1987. Charlie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 both of Shelbyville, Illinois and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #4829 in Shelbyville, Illinois.
He married Jacqueline Brown on May 1, 1954 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, Illinois.
Charlie taught his children a good work ethic. He loved and cared for his family and was devoted to his church. He enjoyed the outdoors: gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; daughters, Brenda K. Reynolds (Alan) of Shelbyville, Illinois and Judy K. Dickerson (Dean) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sons, John T. Rodgers (Tammy) of Clinton, Illinois and Brian S. Rodgers (Theresa) of Southern Pines, NC; brother, William Rodgers of Carlinville, Illinois; grandchildren, Tony Lape (Rachel), Chad Lape (Jennifer), Brant Rodgers (Dana), Jason Rodgers (Tera), Ryan Rodgers, Amy Knebel (Travis), Jessica Dickerson, Shelby Barnhart and Savanah Barnhart; step-grandchildren, Kelly Jo Swank and Heath Reynolds; great grandchildren, Anthony Lape, Elyse Lape, Maci Rodgers, Charlie Rodgers, Mikala Hays and Peyton Newberry and great great granddaughter, Sophie Knebel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Luella Scalise; brother, Howard Rodgers and half-brothers, Donald Wilson and Morse Rodgers.
A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday morning, May 26, 2020 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, Illinois.
