Minnie was born November 2 1867 in Okonona, Chicksaw County, Mississippi to Samuel Turner Abernethy and Sarah Anne Virginia Lewis. Less than a year after her birth her father died on August 8 1868. Her mother married again on August 21 1875 to Osborne Franklin Abernethy who was Samuel's brother.
Minnie married married Daniel Bruce Overcash on September 4 1895 in Catawba County, North Carolina. Minnie and Daniel had two children Faye Wilma Overcash and Dennis Brant Overcash. This marriage ended with Daniel's death on August 15 1898.
Minnie married again to Robert Alexander Cloyd on June 10 1901 in Cabarrus County, NC and had four more children, Robert William Cloyd, Ray (who died before his second birthday) Wade Abernethy, and Franklin Eugene Cloyd.
