MERIDEN — Jimmie Maurice Welch, 62, of 1672 North Broad St., entered into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Mid-State Medical Center. He was the husband of Lillian (Gardner)
Welch. Jimmie was born in Waterbury on July 19, 1945, the son of James and Helen (Ward) Welch of Waterbury. He was educated in the Waterbury school system and graduated from Croft High School in Waterbury.
After returning from his tour of duty in the Army in Vietnam, he attended Post College and then received his degree in business from Wesleyan Iowa College in 1968.
Jimmie started a woman's softball league, the Super Naturals, in Waterbury. He holds the record for the most home runs in Hopeville baseball, organized the North Square Scholarship Club and partnered with friends and family to open Classic Lounge in Waterbury. He also played in the Spanish Softball League and was a member of the Mid-State Bowling League.
He was a member of the Apostolic Community Church of Jesus & Ministries in Meriden where he was a member of the Usher Board and Men's Ministry. Mr. Welch worked at Mid-State Medical Center for 18 years.
Besides his wife of Meriden and parents of Waterbury, he leaves to mourn two sons, Cory Maurice Welch of Waterbury and Jerell Welch of Virginia; three daughters, Tina Taylor and Marcise Welch, both of Waterbury, and Monique Wallace of Georgia; a brother, Stevie Welch of Waterbury; one sister, Kay Lawrence and her husband, Tony Lawrence, of Ohio; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Steward Welch.
Home going services will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at Apostolic Community Church of Jesus & Ministries, 146 Center St., Meriden. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, with the family receiving friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, and also on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Petteway Family Funeral Service, 116 East Farm St., Waterbury. Burial with full military honor will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
Arrangements are entrusted to Petteway Family Funeral Service.
