Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, and continues at 9 a.m. Wednesday until services at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Bob Lynch and Dr. Victor Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Lewis Leon Brown and Nora Alby Williams Brown.
She was a retired registered nurse, having worked at the McComb Infirmary and in private duty. She was a long time member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Alpha Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ensign Society and an active member for many years of the Illinois Central Railroad Fireman's Auxiliary. Her family said she was a generous person to her family and friends, loved her church and Sunday school class, and was known affectionately to many as "Smiley."
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jamie M. Carroll; and three brothers, Frank L. Brown,Ted R. Brown and William N. Gunnell Sr.
Survivors include her husband, David J. Williams Sr. of McComb; two stepsons, David Williams Jr. and his wife Lois of Tampa, Fla.,and Harold Williams of McComb; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Williams Murphy of McComb; two sisters, Vivian McClelland and her husband Bill, and Dixie Carruth, all of Summit; two stepgrandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and several loving caregivers.
Pallbearers will be Buford Cook, Charlie Fenn, Bert Cockerham,Sammy Williams, Larry McDaniel and Paul Dykes Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 719 Third St.,McComb, MS 39648.
