Joshua's Obituary

On Monday, May 17, 2020, at 9:30 am Joshua Creighton, our loving son, family member, and friend passed peacefully away at the age of 31. Cause of death was 'Internal Traumatic Brain Injury' which included massive stroking and brain stem damage due to a blood clot.

Joshua is preceded in death by his grandparents, and his boyhood pet Gremlin, his much loved Cocker Spaniel of 13 years. He is sadly survived by his mother and father, Vicki and Chris Creighton, 3 aunts, 2 uncles, and his beloved cousins Ashley, Danielle, Elisha, Janelle, Jennifer, Brittany, Darrell, Joe, Daniel, Destiny, and Tyler 'Duner', several nieces, nephews, and many close friends.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 1, 1989 to his happy and blessed parents. He was beautiful boy with soft blonde curls, very gentle in spirit and an explorer from childhood. Always full of endless curiosity. Growing up he was a Boy Scout, and showed great talent in acting, writing and playing music. In high school he was a member of the ROTC program, and played soccer for Bullitt Central High School.

As Joshua became a young man he continued his passion for creating beautiful music, videos, writing and learning to live life large. While falling in love with Sara, at just 24 he was hit hard with a pronounced anxiety disorder with OCD, associated hypochondria, and persistent HPPD images. Over a three-year period, he tried, tested, and attempted 10 different medications. Some made things horribly worse, but none offered relief.

He came back home, after attempting to start a business in Florida with a friend, that failed. Within 1 week of being home he had a massive panic attack and thought he was dying of a heart attack. Then there was a year and half period where he couldn't sleep for days because of night tremors and muscle spasms. The only way to provide him any calm was to snuggle with him and provide comfort.

Finally he said he'd had enough of being controlled by anxiety, past guilt and regrets. Determined to overcome his fears and anxieties he became a world traveler visiting locations such as Edinburgh Scotland with his dad, he worked at a seaside retreat in Tunisia, survived a shootout in France. He lived in Warsaw Poland for 4 months writing online content for Polish tech startup companies. And of course, I can't forget his beautiful local girlfriend, Kati. You meant the world to Joshua, he fondly spoke of missing you often and that you showed him that he could be loved.

He came back home to get his batteries charged, love on his mama and papa bear, and figure out what the next leg of his plan would be. That's more difficult than you realize for someone with OCD. If you have too many options, it becomes near impossible to narrow it down. And he could definitely over-analyze any information that he consumed. Without doubt, he was the most intelligent person I've ever known.

For the last few weeks he was finalizing his plans to go back to England. He was writing songs and making tunes on his new electric guitar and amp he'd bought. He was taking his last 8 classes to finish his associate degree. And then wanted to get a certification that would allow him to teach English to children throughout Western European countries. The thing he talked about the most is that he was tired of making plans, running, and hearing that 'maybe next time' crap. It is this time or never, he would say. I'm 31 and this is my last shot at finding a home with a beautiful wife to love and a few grandchildren running around. I told him that I agreed with him. It's time to make it happen.

Funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2020 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with cremation to follow. Friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home
