Jimmie Dean Palmer
A long time valley resident, passed away at the age of 73 on August 15, 2007 in North Bend, WA. Jim was born in Yakima, WA on March 9, 1934 to Alex and Ethel Palmer. He attended school in Yakima, prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. He served during the Korean War and was discharged in 1955.

Jim returned home to the Yakima Valley and began working for Northwest Northern Optical. Due to company downsizing, he was laid off two years later and began working a variety of jobs until he was hired by Northwest Northern Optical in Spokane, WA. Jim met Patricia Ann Hansberry in Spokane and they married on April 30, 1960 in Ellensburg, WA. They were blessed with four children: Donald, Ronald, John and Suzanne. After their children were born, they moved to the Snoqualmie Valley where they have remained residents. Over the years, Jim had many occupations. He worked for the Boeing Company, Boise Cascade, Western Optical, Weyerhauser, and the Lake Washington School District – until his retirement in 1999.

Jim enjoyed Volksmarching, but he most loved taking trips with his family and friends. Whether it was one of the seven trips to climb Crazy Horse, the three visits to Florida and the Gulf Shores, to the Oregon coast to watch the kids ride the quads or even the 7 week trip to Alaska - by way of Alabama with Mel and Sheila: he loved being with his family.

Jim is survived by his wife Pat of North Bend, WA, his son Don (wife Kristin) Palmer of Shoreline, WA; son Ron (wife Carol) Palmer of Sumas, WA; son John (wife Kari) Palmer of North Bend and daughter Suzie (husband Jim) Townsend of North Bend; his brother Melvin (wife Sheila) of Chehalis, WA and five grandchildren: Nick, Sarah, Jeremy and Jill Palmer and Luke Townsend. Numerous nieces, nephews and relatives also survive him.

A celebration of life and memorial service will begin 2pm Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Flintofts Funeral Home, 540 East Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA 98027. His committal service with military honors will begin at 11am, Tuesday August 21, 2007 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042-4868.

Memorial donations preferred to either: Providence Hospice of Seattle, 425 Pontius Ave. N., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98109-9724 or Eastside Fire and Rescue – North Bend, 122 W. 2nd St., North Bend, WA 98045.
