UNION CIVIL WAR SOLDIER. MEMBER CO. D, 47TH REG.PA. VOL.
Death Certificate: Indicates Tilghman Ritz was born in Lehigh County, and died in Allentown, and the son of Peter Reitz and Flora (Trexler) Reitz
A Mention of Tilghman Ritz in Lewis Schmidt's "A Civil War History of the 47th Regiment of Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers": Confirms Tilghman's service as one of the Three Month Service men (early responders to President Lincoln's call for troops in April 1861 after the fall of Fort Sumter), as well as his service with the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteers, and an interesting coincidence regarding his death:
"One man who enrolled on Wednesday, April 17, was Tilghman Ritz of Allentown, who would later serve in Company B of the 47th. Pvt. Ritz served under Capt. Gausler during the Three Month Service, in Company I of the Pennsylvania Regiment. Mr. Ritz would serve throughout the war, and die at the age of 70 on the day of the 47th Regiment's 35th annual reunion in 1907."
