Mary Ellen Gibson, 72, of Grottoes, passed away, Saturday, May 23, 2020, at her home.

Mrs. Gibson, was born January 12, 1948, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Charles William and Virginia Mary Wease McDonaldson.

Mary was employed at Gayle’s Market in Penn Laird as well as 340 Quick Stop in Port Republic, retiring after 24 years. She enjoyed yard work, gardening and caring for her pets.

In 1967, she married Clifton Courtney Gibson, who preceded her in death in 1987.

She is survived by her sons, Montgomery Gibson and wife, Christal of Pineville, Joseph Gibson of Harriston, Jonathan Gibson and companion, Natalie of Harrisonburg; daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Dean and husband, Frank of Pineville, Cynthia Rodgers and husband, Tony of Port Republic, and Pamela Gibson of Grottoes; grandson who was raised like a son, Clifton Vest of Grottoes; brother, Jerry McDonaldson and wife, Judy of Waynesboro; 14 grandchildren, Meagan Dean, Danielle Dean, Kayla Stephens, Brittany Gibson, Christopher Gibson, Tanner Gibson, Naomi Gibson, Amber Gibson, Rebecca Gibson, Adrianna Lackey, William Gibson, Shawn Lackey, Laurin Cline and Cameo Rodgers; seven great-grandchildren, and companion of over 20 years, Jay Lam of Elkton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah High; brothers, Charles and Richard McDonaldson; sisters, Mabel Hensley, Shirley Comer and Doris Jean Dean, and a granddaughter, Tabitha High,
