Jon Houston Patton was born December 15, 1934 in Oklahoma City to Joe & Ramey Patton. He departed this earth May 22, 2020 at his home in Stillwater Oklahoma surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29th, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, OK at 2:00 pm. A mask is required if you plan to attend. Jon grew up in the OKC & Edmond area. He graduated from Edmond High School in 1952. He went to Oklahoma State University to obtain a degree in Dairy Production. While at OSU, he met his wife Nancy and his passion for leadership blossomed. He was president of Farmhouse Fraternity and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Blue Key and Alpha Zeta scholastic.
Jon received a second Lieutenant Commission in the United States Air Force from 1956-1959 as a jet aircraft pilot reaching the rank of Captain and was combat rated as a radar weapons controller.
He completed his D.D.S. from Baylor University in 1963. Jon had a long career in dentistry and served with a passion. He was elected President of the Oklahoma Academy, Oklahoma Society of Dentistry for Children and the Oklahoma Dental Association where he was awarded dentist of the year.
Jon lived in Stillwater 56 years and took great pride in serving the community. He was elected Mayor in 1976. He served on numerous committees and boards such as Chairman of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Stillwater Public Schools Board, Stillwater City Commission, Stillwater Medical Center, Stillwater Public Library, United Way, and the First United Methodist Church. He was in the first class of Leadership Oklahoma in 1987.
Jon’s motto was to always give back and serve. His charitable works are too many to mention but he was very proud of being instrumental in creating many free dental care programs as well as doing mission work by providing dental care abroad in third world countries. He loved supporting kids and helping them pursue their dreams. He established many scholarships and was the first one to donate or be at a fundraiser. He was purposeful and passionate and always took the seat to the right of the spotlight.
He loved OSU and was a lifelong ticket holder, supporter and donor. He bled orange and black!
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Dan Patton.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Patton of Stillwater, daughter Diane Fix and husband Dusty of Stillwater, son Barry Patton and wife Vanessa of Stillwater, grandchildren Dylan Fix, Daxton Fix, Kailey Weiner and husband Jake, Skyler Patton and wife Chelsea, and great grandson Asher Weiner
He was a wonderful husband, partner, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
