Beulah was born on November 6, 1921 at Albury, New South Wales (N.S.W.), Australia. She was the oldest daughter of Theodore and Dorothea (Blaess) Briese. Beulah was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jindera, on November 20, 1921. She attended St John’s Lutheran School. She was confirmed, November 8, 1936 by Pastor Rudolph at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jindera.
After her schooling was completed she moved to Trungley Hall, N.S.W. to help in the home of her uncle Alf Briese. In 1946 she traveled to Adelaide and worked as a domestic at Concordia College, then for one year at the home of Dr. Woods. She then became a Lift Operator at John Martins and worked there for 2 ½ years. During WWII her aunt Anne Weiss extended hospitality to American Soldiers, who were in training camps near Adelaide. It was in the home of her aunt that she met an American G.I., Loren Wessel. After the war, he returned to Australia. Beulah and Loren were married February 19, 1955 at the Lutheran Church, Albury, N.S. W. The couple then traveled to Papua New Guinea where Loren had accepted a job as a lay Church worker with the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church USA in their Highland Mission Field.
In 1957 Loren and Beulah returned to the United States of America having completed their terms in the Papua New Guinea Mission Fields. They settled on a dairy farm outside Truman, MN. There, Beulah raised 6 children and when they were gone, she started another career as a nurse Aid at the Truman Lutheran Retirement Home. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman and the Truman Legion Auxiliary. Beulah was a loving, hard-working wife, and mother who believed in duty and service to God, family, and her adopted country. She became a US citizen in 1986.
Beulah will be missed by her husband of 63 years, Loren Wessel; children, Timothy (Jody) Wessel, Karen Roedel, Warren (Linda) Wessel, Tamara (Bruce) Lammers, Richard Wessel; son in-law, Jim Sackett; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Brian) Pellin, Jennifer (Jordan) Glamann, Kaleb (Rachel) Roedel, Shane (Becky) Roedel, Hunter Roedel, Brooklynn Roedel, Katie Wessel, Ivy Pettersen, Missy (Kyle) Pettersen- Scott, Amy (Chris) Hoheisel, Calvin Lammers, Lauren Lammers, Colin (Olivia) Lammers, Jacquie (Paul) Malzahn, Shelby (Bryan) Hauge, Kelsey (Cody Geistfeld) Sackett, Kayla, Emily Wessel, Josiah Wessel, Hannah Wessel, Talia Wessel, Joseph Wessel; many great grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Daphne Sackett; son-in-law, Marty Roedel; granddaughter, Avenelle Joy Lammers; two sisters; two brothers; many in-laws; relatives and friends.
