Frank Staples, 66, of Cumberland and Charleston, SC., passed away suddenly on Tuesday in Trident Medical Center, Charleston, SC. He was the beloved husband of Stephanie L. (Emerson) Staples, they have been married for the past 47 years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George W. and Alma (Cote) Staples. Frank was a lifelong Cumberland resident. He and his wife spent the winter months at their home in North Charleston, SC for the past 5 years.
Frank was an inspector for more than 32 years at Electric Boat, Quonset Point. He will be remembered as an honest, hardworking, family man. He was a mentor to many. Everyone knew there was nothing he could not fix. He found great joy in helping anyone he could, working in his garage with loved ones, or grabbing a bite to eat at the local wiener joint after a Saturday afternoon car show.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter Amy Scott and her husband Dana Scott of Cumberland. Two grandsons; Collin Scott and Zachary Scott both of Cumberland. Three brothers; George W. Staples of Whitefield, NH., Joseph Staples of Woonsocket, RI and Thomas Staples of Blackstone, MA. One sister; Alma Hocott of Woonsocket, RI, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Alfred Staples, Robert Staples, Joan Whipple and Beatrice Otte.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Frank's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Tuesday, May 26th, from 4 to 6 PM and continue on Wednesday, May 27th, at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only ten guests and family members may be in the funeral home at any given time. Upon arrival, funeral home staff will ask you remain in your vehicle and you will be notified when you are able to enter the building. The service will be held outdoors (weather permitting) and broadcast to guests in attendance on 90.1 FM in the safety of their vehicles. Face masks or coverings are required for entry into the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Ocean State Baptist Church, 600 Douglas Pike Smithfield, RI.
