Gary Atkinson, age 83 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Thursday May 21, 2020 at Freeman hospital Joplin surrounded by his family after a sudden illness.

He was born January 19, 1937 in La Russell, Missouri to Russell and Geraldine (Wooten) Atkinson.
He married Mary Catherine Shryock on June, 19th 1957 in Joplin, MO, and she preceded him in death on May 30st 1993.

Gary served in the United States Airforce stationed in Korea for 4 years. After his service he worked as a plant manager for FAG bearings in Memphis, Tennessee and then retired from being a supervisor at LaBarge for over 10 years in Joplin, currently worked for Food 4 Less in Joplin.

He is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Atkinson, Pam Bannister and Heather Henson all of Joplin, Missouri, one sister, Gloria Holmes West point, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren as well as extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00pm Tuesday at Mason-Woodard.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Mason-Woodard chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
