Robert Fairchild Dickson was the son of John DeWitt Dickson, Sr. and Nannie Florence Russell Dickson. He was the brother of John DeWitt Dickson, Jr., Charles Russell Dickson, and Mary Elizabeth Dickson (Mrs. Richard Drew Massee). He married Ruth Hay Dickson (b. 9-1-1897 in Jacksonville, FL) on 4-1-1922. They had one son, Robert Hay Dickson (b. 4-30-1926, d. 11-8-2006 in Corrales, NM). He was a Vice President of Norfolk and Western Railway. He had lived at 930 Ardsley Road in Charlotte, NC upon his death. When he retired from Norfolk and Western Railway in 1962 he moved from Roanoke, VA where he lived for many years and moved to Charlotte, NC.
