Rosa Lee Jackson Alexander; a woman of faith, integrity and honor entered into the world to begin life’s journey on July 5, 1936. Her journey came to an end on Friday, May 1, 2020. Rosa, affectionately known as “Rose”, was the third child born to the union of Mary A. and Earl Jackson, Sr. in Vacherie, LA. She accepted and gave her life to Christ at an extremely early age in the Catholic faith. In 1946, after relocating with her parents to Marrero, LA, she became a parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. In 1962, she joined and was baptized at the New Zion Baptist Church by the then Rev. Joseph Howard, Sr., where she remained until her transitioning, now pastored by Rev. Austin Dennis. While at New Zion, she operated in several ministries. She was also a member Marrero Senior Citizens and Seasoned Seniors. In 1952, she married Mr. Willie “J.B.” Alexander. Sixteen years into that union, one son was born, Corey Alexander. Rosa furthered her education in the Jefferson Parish School System. In 1978, she was blessed to walk across the stage of L.W. Higgins High School with her high school diploma at the age of 42. Rose was definitely a humanitarian and a pillar of her community.

Leaving to rejoice in her memories are; one passionate and devoted son, Corey Alexander; two loving sisters, Mary C. Jones and Linda Jackson; three protective and loving brothers, Earl Jr., Joseph and Leroy Jackson, Sr. (friend, Joyce Washington); one adopted son, Eric Henry; one adopted daughter, Elaine James; four zealous and faithful godchildren, Anthony Jones, Williesteen Burroughs, Sheila Clinton and Rosalind Williams; five grandchildren, one great-grandson, one sister-in-law who could not have been more of a sister had they come from the same mother, Arnishie Allean Alexander; her godfather, Edween “Pooloo” Octare, Jr.; her loving Pastor Austin Dennis, First Lady Carolyn Dennis and the entire New Zion Baptist Church family; her adopted Pastor James N. Brown, First Lady Ellanese Brown and the Second Zion Baptist Church family; other cousins, relatives and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Mary A. and Earl Jackson, Sr.; her husband, Willie “J.B.” Alexander; mother-in-law, Gertrude Williams; two brothers, August and Paul Jackson; one sister, Mary A. Williams; one adopted son, Douglas Austin; four sisters-in-law, Gussie L. Jackson, Martha Jackson, Florence Jackson and Audrey Williams; five brothers-in-law, George Washington, Lenton Jones, Alfred Alexander, Sr., Oliver Williams, and Edward Williams.

There will be a walk-through Public Viewing on Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 8 AM-9:45 AM at New Zion Baptist Church located at 1131 Garden Road, Marrero, LA 70072. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, there will be a restricted funeral. It is mandatory that everyone entering the church for the viewing wear a mask or some form of face covering. No more than 10 persons at a time allowed in.
