Shitsu Nakano, Japan's oldest person, has died at a nursing home in southwestern Japan, an official at the home said Monday. She was 113 year old.
Nakano died of old age Sunday afternoon, said Seiji Yamashita, an official at the nursing home in Fukuoka where she had lived since 1996.
She had eight children, 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, according to Kyodo News agency. Nakano had been ill lately, the agency reported.
Nakano, who was born January 1, 1894, had just become the oldest person in Japan after Yone Minagawa died last Monday at age 114.
