KEY WEST CITIZEN
May 30, 2020

Marie Rendueles, age 83, passed away quickly and on her terms May 20, 2020. Our precious mother was born August 22, 1936 in Key West, Florida, to Faustino Rendueles and Marie Manzano Rendueles. Marie had one brother, Fausto Rendueles. Her first home was always very dear to her heart. Once a conch always a conch.

Education was an important path in our mother's life. She graduated high school from the Convent of Mary Immaculate, where she helped visiting Spanish speaking students learn our English language. Many of whom became life long friends. Later, Marie graduated with a degree in education from Florida State University, where she met and later married our father, Burton Locklin Sr. For most of her teaching career, Marie taught in Santa Rosa County, Florida. She taught elementary age children all the way up to high school. No easy task!

Marie was quite an accomplished tennis player being named Women's Champion of Key West in her early teens. While attending Florida State University, she and and her teammate placed 2nd in the women's couples category in our state's Florida Tennis Championships. However, tennis was not her only sport. Marie also played for her high school's softball team. Our mother was an avid baseball fan. She loved the Boston Red Sox and shared her personal memory of Babe Ruth from when she was a young girl. She could quote stats and players like no other we knew. Had her calling not been education, she would have made a remarkable sports announcer.

Our precious mother cared deeply for her family. She leaves behind her 5 children Burt Locklin Jr. (Lisa), Sean Locklin, Marie Locklin, Rosana Locklin (Kelse), and Robert Locklin. Several grandchildren Jennifer Locklin, Evelia Hooks (Kyle), Dane Locklin, Rosana Bodi, McCalla Locklin, and Bren Bodi, and her great grandson, Calvin Hooks.

While we can no longer hold Marie's physical body, we can and do hold her memory cherished our hearts. She has said, "Death is nothing at all-I have only slipped away into the next room". Our mother is waiting for us. One brief moment and all will be as it was before-only better.

Marie's children and extended family would like to express our deepest gratitude to her friend, Donna Newman Windle in Key West. With Donna's loving care and concern, our mother was able to share her final days with her close family.

Our mother was a very charitable person and cared for those in need. In lieu of flowers, please honor our mother by donating to a charity close to your heart.
