Werner worked with his father in the sausage making business in Germany. He was arrested for hitting a cow with a stick on the way to the slaughter house, and then he was tortured. His parents managed to get him out of Germany just before the door was closed to Jews leaving, and he managed to get to the United States. Max Tern became his sponsor and got him a job with Maurice Goldfoot. Werner met and married Maurice's sister, Ann, and they had five girls. Werner was greatly affected by the fact that he was unable to get his parents and 16 year old sister out of Germany and they died in concentration camps. After Ann died, Werner remarried Goldie. He enjoyed having his large family to his home during holidays, and enjoyed attending synagogue services. Werner always loved classical music, opera, and eating chocolate with his coffee.
