She was a daughter of Theopolis Gant Murphy and Mary Lucille Brunson Murphy. She was of the Baptist faith. She retired as an intake investigator after 35 years of service with the Chatham County Division of Family & Children Services. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Theopolis Gant Murphy, Jr., Lucius Adolph Murphy, and William Edward Murphy. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Hord and her husband, Raymond N “Ray” Hord; one granddaughter, Morgan Anne Matte and her husband, Jacob, and one great-granddaughter, Molly Matte.
