Michael Marvin Mark, 41, of Mark Road, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Plattsburgh, May 28, 1978, the son of Edward William "Bill" and Katherine Anne (Meseck) Mark. He grew up in Plattsburgh and graduated from Peru Central School in 1996. He later graduated from Plattsburgh State University with a Master's Degree in Education.
His teaching career began at AuSable Valley Central School where he was an academic intervention services teacher for six years. He was then hired at Moriah Central School and has been a high school math teacher there, for many years.
Michael was a wonderful son growing up. He had a smile that was like sunshine. You always wanted him around smiling. As a child he was often the teacher's favorite. He enjoyed playing games.
"I remember when he was a young teen, he and his brothers, Stephen and Jason challenged me (Mom) to a game of Risk. It was a marathon game lasting from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. What a memory that is! Of course, Mom lost!"
When Mike was 16, he went on a mission trip to Guatemala. He said it was amazing and he learned the joy of serving and helping others. He told us then that he knew he would be a teacher. A teacher he became.

He would regularly tell me that Michael's class did not even feel like a class." "Michael was a passionate teacher holding students to a high standard and driving them to do their best. Funny thing the students would comment on was how he would hit his head against his white board, so much so, he cracked it!"
Michael would often share how he would challenge his students and not just in math. He was an avid Don Brown reader and encouraged his students to read and come back to him so they could discuss the books.
Among Mike's hobbies, you would often find him working his garden, which grew bigger each year, and many would enjoy the benefits as he shared from his crop. Then there were chickens! Mike became a serious chicken farmer and he often talked about growing his farm by adding some cows. When Mike started a project, he completed it and he did it well!
Michael raised his best friend from a puppy. Kody is a 16-year old Chocolate Lab. Those two had a great relationship. It was a treat to see the two in action showing puppy love to all who cared to see.
Left to cherish the memory of Michael, are his parents, Bill and Kathy Mark; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen (Tamara) Mark, and Jason (Jessica) Mark, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends, teaching colleagues, and students, both past and present.
