Martha Smith, 98, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars surrounded by family.

A private family service will be held at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Jan Christensen from the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe, Iowa. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Martha Ellen Raymond was born May 16, 1922 in Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Grothe) Raymond. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school and following her schooling, she helped her family on the farm. Later, she worked as a nurse for her Father at Raymond Nursing Home in Onawa for several years. She later moved to Seal Beach, California where she enjoyed volunteering at her church and for various groups and organizations. In the late 1980’s, she moved back to Le Mars, Iowa to be closer to her family. For the past 6 years, she has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Martha enjoyed baking, especially cakes for family members birthdays. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her selfless approach on life and her willingness to care for others.

Survivors include her sister, Margaret Heitz of Oregon; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two sisters in law: Bernadine Raymond of Onawa, IA and Luella “Lolly” Raymond of Onawa, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her late husbands, parents - Frank Raymond and Bessie Raymond Disney; her 3 children: Doris “Lucky” Rolfes, Frank “Butch” Mobley, and Harold “Jr” Mobley; and two brothers, Frank Raymond and George Raymond.

Martha’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars for their care and comfort over the past 6 years.
