This monument was dedicated on August 1, 1974 by the government of Toyama Prefecture and the mayor of Toyama city. It was built in memory of 2275 casualties and 8000 additional citizens wounded when seventy US B-29 bombers assaulted Toyama city on August 2, 1945. It also commemorates the magnificent efforts of the citizens of Toyama to reconstruct the city following this devastating event.
