Harold Lee Simmons, 86, of Marquette Heights, passed away at 11:38 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 at his home.

Born April 29, 1934 in White Hall, Illinois to Edward and Helen Ruth (Bateman) Simmons, he married Marla (Camp) Simmons and later married June Simmons. She died November 21, 2011 in East Peoria. He was also preceded by his parents and one sister, Dixie May.

Surviving are three daughters, Deborah (Jay) Moritz of Marquette Heights, Toni (Frank) Brown of Greenwood, Indiana and Tammy (Terry) Harms of Creve Coeur; six sons, Terry (Kim) Steele of Marquette Heights, H. Wayne (Vickie) Simmons of Peoria, Tim (Kathi) Steele of Peoria, Ted Steele of East Peoria, Tracy (Liz) Steele of Kokomo, Indiana, and Warren (Lori) Simmons of Houston, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Judy (Steve) Tribble of Canton.

Harold worked as a master tradesman at Caterpillar Inc. for 44 years. He was an active member of UAW Local 974.

An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Harold also enjoyed watching westerns and football. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

A gathering celebrating Harold’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday June 6, 2020 at Liberty Hall, 100 Lincoln Road in Marquette Heights. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
