Princess Anne County, Virginia marriage records show the following -
"Married August 11, 1920 - Charles Haywood Spence, single, and Nettie Frances Bright, single - Charles Haywood Spence, age 24, born in Tyrell County, North Carolina and residing in Back Bay [Princess Anne County], Virginia, occupation Farmer, son of W.D. Spence and his wife, Emma - Nettie Frances Bright, age 20, born in Princess Anne County, Virginia and residing in Back Bay [Princess Anne County], Virginia, daughter of J.W. Bright and his wife, Georgeanna"

"She had retired as a schoolteacher and a licensed practical nurse. She is survived by her daughter, Bessanna S. Brumley of Virginia Beach; sons, Dan T. Spence of Virginia Beach and Hunter N. Spence of Hamden, Conn.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren."
