The community was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Miss Florence Aileen Negus, which occurred at Brattleboro Memorial hospital Sunday. She was taken to the hospital Thursday having worked until that time. Miss Negus was born in Somerset, Aug. 27, 1887, older daughter of Merrick M. and Estella (Stetson) Negus. When she was quite young her parents moved to Dover and later to Wilmington, where she graduated from high school. She prepared herself for teaching by a correspondence course and attending summer school and was a very successful teacher in Pawlet, Rupert and nearly all the Wilmington schools. She gave up teaching to care for her aging parents, to whom she was most devoted. Her mother died in 1933 and her father the following year. For the past five years she has been housekeeper for Mrs. Emma Stickney in Brattleboro. She was a member of the Wilmington Congregational church and a former member of the S.O.U.V. Auxiliary, having been musician for several years. For many years she was assistant librarian. She was ever active in the community, and in her quiet unobtrusive way always ready to help everyone. Her good deeds will long live in the community. About three years ago she purchased a place in Putney, where she planned to make her home when she gave up her work in Brattleboro. She is survived by one sister, Mildred, wife of Edgar Landman of Rawsonville and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were largely attended at the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Henry Hughes of Granville, N.Y., a former pastor of the Congregational church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Eddy, pastor. The casket was completely covered with beautiful flowers, loving tributes of relatives and friends. The bearers were Charles, Adin and Kenney Coleman and Myron Allen. Burial was in the family lot in Cutting cemetery. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Landman and Raymond Landman, Rawsonville; Charles Coleman, Bellows Falls, Adin and Kenney Coleman, Jamaica; Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Stetson, Vernon; Mrs. Marion Howard and daughter, Howard Rice, Mrs. Lottie Thomas, Clarence Stickney and Emily Messier, Brattleboro; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Messier, New London, N.H.; Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Stetson, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Allen, Wallace Allen and Mrs. Minerva Reed Jacksonville; Mr. and Mrs. Marcheginia, Stamford, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rice and Hugh Rice, Searsburg.
