Janice Maureen Strommen was born on September 8, 1936 in Crookston, Minnesota. She was an only child born to Edwin and Della Strommen. Janice died April 24, 2020 at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, Minnesota from the Covid-19 virus.
Janice grew up in Climax, Minnesota, graduating from Climax High School. She then moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, and worked at Bell Telephone Company. In 1958 she married Duaine Dale, from Nielsville, Minnesota. Janice and Duaine lived in Moorhead and raised four children. While raising her family, Janice provided childcare to multiple neighborhood children, worked at Concordia College in the cafeteria, and retired from St. Luke’s Hospital after working many years as a Ward Clerk on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Janice and Duaine had fun dancing at the Eagles Club and bowling. They loved a trip of a lifetime to Norway, multiple bus tours, and road trips to the casinos with friends. Janice was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN, where she enjoyed quilting and socializing with friends and neighbors. Janice also loved baking, having coffee with friends and walking with her dog Lacey.
Duaine passed away in 2008, and Janice moved to Eventide in 2014 following back surgery, confining her to a wheelchair. This resulted in needing the skilled care that Eventide staff were able to provide. While at Eventide, she enjoyed attending chapel services, working on puzzles, reading, developing relationships with the staff and residents and all of her friends and family that came to visit.
Janice will be missed by her children, Douglas (Dar) Dale, Lori (Jeff) Houseman, Jean Dertinger, and Randy (Shelly) Dale; grandchildren, Dustin (Cassandra) Dale, Jessica (Rebecca) Dale, Benjamin Houseman, Keith Dertinger, Zachary (Jenna) Dale, Brock Dale, and 6 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Gladys Chandler and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duaine; her parents, Edwin and Della Strommen; her father and mother-in-law Henry and Ida Dale; her brothers-in-law, Harvey Dale, Edgar Dale, and Merlin Dale.
