Mrs. Rachel Ann Hughes, age 80, of Roxboro, NC, departed this life Saturday, May 16, 2020 in the Canterbury House in Roxboro, NC. She was a native of Person County and a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Hughes; a son, Derrell Hughes; her parents, Chris and Thennie Winstead; one sister and five brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Blackwell (David) of Roxboro, NC; three sons: Ronald Hughes (Janet), Tracey Hughes (Melissa) and Michael Hughes, all of Roxboro; one brother, Jack Winstead (Linda) of Durham, NC; three sisters: Nannie Pulliam, Mamie Poole and Betty Jordan (Frank), all of Roxboro; fourteen grandchildren; Brian Hughes; eleven sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and a host of other additional relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 2:00pm at Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1111 Oak Grove Mt. Zion Road, Roxboro, NC 27574 with the Rev. Clyde A. Glass, Pastor, officiating and providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A walk-through Visitation will also be Tuesday at the church from 1:00pm to 2:00pm when her body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Attendance at the funeral will be limited to fifty (50) individuals in compliance with an Executive Order from the Office of the Governor. Attendees will be pre-determined by the family.
