....Charles Hoagland was born March 9, 1863, in Coles County, Illionis. His parents were Henry and Jane Hoagland.
....His parents came to California in 1852, then went to Oregon and then returned to Illinois. Again the crossed the plains, both times with ox teams, the last being in 1865. They settled a second time in California and in 1879 came to Klamath County. He died in 1890.
....Charles came with his family in 1865 to Napa County, California, then moved to Merced County, and later accompanied his family to Langell's Valley in 1879.
Few settlers were here then and his father purchased the first place that had been taken in the valley. The father engaged in farming and stock raising and became very prosperous.
....On July 1, 1884, Charles married Margaret Burzan who was born in Jackson County.
....The Hoaglands had six children:Bird, Georgia, Emma, Lewis, Fernie and Grace.
