Selma Wayne (S.W.)Goodnight was born on June 10, 1932, in Mississippi. He left the cotton fields of Mississippi behind and made his way to Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Mamie Francis Spivey, on April 12, 1952. They were blessed with one son, Larry Wayne Goodnight. They were married for 61 years before Mamie's death in 2013. He remarried a year later to Janice Patricia O'Quinn, and they lived together on his ranch for almost three years before his death from heart disease on September 19, 2017. He was cremated and half of his cremains were scattered on the ranch in Cleburne, Texas, and the other half were buried at Lindsey Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, Texas.

S.W. worked many years fabricating airplane and helicopter parts for Consolidated and Bell Helicopter before he retired. He ran a ranch in Cleburne, Texas for many years before after retirement. He was survived by his second wife Jan Goodnight and his son Larry Goodnight. S.W. was kind and generous, with a funny sense of humor and he had many, many friends and distant family members who loved him and remember him fondly.
