Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial for Johnny Leon Pate, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, Fr. Clint Trahan will officiate the mass. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.

Leon passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Leon started at an early age of 17 in the oil field as an Rough Neck. Later he went to work for Petroleum Engineers of Lafayette as a Consultant for 40 years before retirement. He loved the oil and gas industry.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Werdna Mae Pate of Port Barre, sons, Johnny Pate, Jr. of Port Barre, and Will Pate and wife, Rene of Cedar Part, Texas, daughters, Kay Pate Fontenot and her husband, Clyde of Lawtell, Pam Pate Martinez and her husband, John of Jarrell, Texas, and Angel Pate Baldree and husband, Kevin of Round Rock, Texas, sister, Anna Bell Adian of Burnet, Texas, nine grandchildren, Blake Fontenot, Danielle Prater, Justin Sullivan, Meagan Ross, Aaron, Zachary, and Sadie Martinez, Jake and Brett Pate, and seventeen great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lola Bell Wallace Pate, sister, Francis Pate, brothers, Kenneth Pate, and Dickie Pate, daughter in law, Pat Weir.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2020 in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre, a Rosary will be held at 5:00 pm. Visitation will resume Monday, May 18, 2020 from 8:00 am. to 10:30 a.m.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre.
