Douglas Kensley Brooks, 91, of Annandale, Va., formerly of Chippewa Township, died Saturday, May 9, 2020.
Born June 8, 1928, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late J. Douglas and Mildred Kensley Brooks. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Class of 1946, and Denison University in 1951. Mr. Brooks was a Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he was the owner of John H. Brooks & Sons and D. & T. Brooks, industrial excavation and construction companies in Beaver Falls. He was a member of the College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPCNA) and earlier had been a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. In retirement he was part of RPCNA congregations in Durham, N.C., and Shawnee, Kan.
In his own quiet and graceful way, he exhibited his faith in Jesus Christ by his kindness, genuineness, and generosity to so many people during his lifetime.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eileen B. and Paul Poister and Melva B. and Norman “Jim” Jimerson; his in-laws, Herb and Betty Gilchrist; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bettye and Dick Garber and Agnes and Dean Carson; and two brothers-in-law, Stewart Lee and Paul McCracken.
He is survived by his wife, Marian D. Gilchrist Brooks, Annandale, Va., whom he married on August 17, 1950, in Greeley, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth “Libbie” and Roger Weber of Albuquerque, N.M.; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas G. and Chris Brooks of Spring Hill, Kan.; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Neal McCluskey of Alexandria, Va. and five grandchildren, Caroline, Jonathan, and Drew Brooks and Iona and Nathanael McCluskey. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ann Lee and Frances McCracken, and many beloved nieces and nephews in Mass., Conn., N.Y., Pa., D.C., Fla., P.R., Ohio, Ala, Wis., Texas, Wyo., Colo., B.C., Wash. and Calif.
Because of the current pandemic there will be no public visitation. When the restrictions are lifted, there will be a memorial service in Beaver Falls. Private interment will take place at the Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New Galilee.
