In Memory of Joseph Ervin Riley
March 21, 1921 - May 2, 2020

Joseph Ervin Riley, always loved and known has Mike, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at the age of 99. After several months of declining health, Mike died peacefully. His daughter, Nancy was able to spend the last several days with him despite covid-19 restrictions. He was living at the Larson Pavilion of Shellpoint in Fort Myers, Florida under the care of Hospice at the time of his passing.
Mike was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 21, 1921 to Virgil Riley and Mary Etta (Casey) Riley and lived most of his life there. Mike was the youngest of their three children. His family was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church where he served many years as an altar boy to usher as an adult. He was a graduate of Fairview High School. After high school, Mike apprenticed at Norwood Engineering Company in Dayton. He served in the army from 1944 to 1946 during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign of WWII and was awarded an Honorable Discharge in 1946. At the end of the war, Mike returned to Dayton and used his G.I. Bill to obtain a technical degree and continue working at the Norwood Engineering Company as a tool and die maker for his entire career. He retired with over 50 years of employment.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Etta, and by his sisters Eileen Randall, Thelma Weckesser, and his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty E. Riley. He is survived by his children Dennis J. Riley (Lillian) and Nancy M. Riley (Michael Galloway); grandchildren Sean Riley, Corey Riley, Scott R. Galloway, and Christopher R. Galloway; and great-grandchildren Jack, Katelyn, Madison and Brendan Riley.
Interment will be with his wife and other family members at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio at a future date to be determined. No visitation or service is planned in Fort Myers, Florida at this time.
