Ellen W. Hughes, 85, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2012, in South Connellsville Personal Care Home, South Connellsville. She was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Charles and Golden Dye Stewart. Ellen was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, in South Connellsville. She was employed as a sales clerk for 32 years at the former G.C. Murphy Department Store, in Connellsville. Ellen enjoyed crocheting and sewing in her leisure time. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren throughout the years. Ellen is survived by a son, Jesse D. Hughes and wife, Sally, of Dandridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren, William A. Hughes, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, William E. Hughes II, of Bellwood, Jennifer Schroeder and husband, Scott, of Dandridge, Tenn., and Deborah Hughes Vuknanic and husband, Mark, of Bellwood; four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Regina Hughes, of Bellwood, Jaycee and Dominic Schroeder, of Dandridge, Tenn.; a brother, William Stewart and wife, Elsie, of Connellsville; daughter-in-law, Glenna Jaynes Hughes, of Bellwood; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Jesse J. Hughes, April 4, 2004; a son, William E. Hughes I; and two brothers, Charles and Melvin Stewart. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side Connellsville, 724-628-9033, and until 10 a.m. Monday, the hour of service with Pastor Matthew Goldsberry officiating. Interment will follow in Greenridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Connellsville Personal Care Home, Amedisys Hospice, or Calvary Assembly of God Church.
