Johnny Lee Sparks, age 78, resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 13th in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Telford Tharp, Jason Keyser and Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Derryberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons and close friends.

Johnny was born July 21, 1941 in Estill County, KY, and was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Shear Sparks and husband of Marquita Rudolph Sparks. He was a self-employed electrical contractor and a disabled Vietnam veteran of the US Air Force. He liked to read his bible many times throughout the year, watch westerns on TV and taking care of his family, farm and his church work at First Pentecostal of Columbia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Ronald Lee (Debbie) Sparks of Athens, AL; daughters: Angela Kay (John) Constintine of Woodbine, GA, Brenda Sue (Allen) Gandy of Athens, AL and Kristine D’Ann (David) McClendon of Columbia; brothers: Sidney M. Sparks of Irvine, KY, Earl J. Sparks and Herman R. Sparks, both of Lewisburg; sister: Cofetta Embrey of Irvine, KY; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: William A. Sparks, James T. Sparks, Glendon Sparks and Delbert Sparks; sisters: Marie Culton, Elsie Still and twins, Fannie and Nanny Sparks.
