John Arthur “Jack” Woodward, 71, passed away on October 19, 2019 at a care facility in Surprise, Arizona. Jack was born in Minot, North Dakota on August 10, 1948 to John and Marion (Anderson) Woodward, and graduated from Minot High School in 1966.

Jack attended Minot State College (now University) until he ventured out to see the country. He worked for a short time in Chicago at O’Hare International Airport, then traveled west. While in Wyoming he learned to ski and ride horses, ultimately graduating from the University of Wyoming at Laramie with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. He then worked and skied at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado. From there he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and worked as a Bell Captain at the Lodge at Snowbird. Jack enjoyed skiing at Snowbird and Alta as well as water skiing on Lake Powell in Utah.

Jack married Diane Callis on June 15, 1985 and they lived in Sandy, Utah.

After being a residential real estate agent for a few years, Jack chose commercial office leasing and sales. Three decades of real estate included Eager & Co, Coldwell Banker, where he was “Deal Maker of the Year” five times, Vice President at CBRichard Ellis, Senior Vice President at NAI West Utah Commercial Real Estate Services, Worldwide, where his team player attitude, integrity, trust, service and hard work ethic were recognized. He was Senior Office Building Specialist at Newmark Grubb ACRES and negotiated transactions for a varying range of clients from Class A office space users to those in the high-tech industry. Jack negotiated sales of office buildings including Jordan Gateway Plaza, 257 Tower, HK Tower, Lakeside Plaza and The Woodlands. Jack was voted the “Commercial Salesman of the Year” in 1989 by the Salt Lake Board of Realtors and was a Lifetime Member of the Board’s “Million Dollar Club.”

Jack and Diane were very active in equestrian sports, competing in Eventing & Hunter/Jumpers. Jack competed in the US Eventing Association on Kahlua, All the Best, Mastermind and Sandstone, winning numerous ribbons, including the Sportsmanship Award in the Utah Hunter Jumper Association.

As avid travelers, Jack and Diane visited Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hawaii, Hungary, Ireland, Italy and Mexico, making many friends along the way and immersing themselves in the culture of each location.

Jack and Diane remained in Sandy, Utah until Jack’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s related Lewy Bodies Dementia. After his diagnosis they moved to Sun City, Arizona to be closer to Diane’s family.

Jack was very personable and will be remembered for his warm smile and sense of humor. He had a natural ease with new acquaintances and made a point of staying in touch with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed skiing, his horses, dogs and cats, music, dancing and red wine.
