Patricia Mary Dykes, age 87, passed away at home on May 13, 2020. She was born March 5, 1933 in Birmingham, England to Thomas and Amy Farrell. While in England, she met and married her longtime love and American soldier, Jackie Bob Dykes, in July of 1954.
Patricia had her first two daughters in England, her third while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and her fourth in Amarillo, Texas. She earned her US Citizenship in 1966. When talking to her family in England, she often was asked what life was like in Texas, to which she explained “not everyone rides a horse.”
Patricia loved to help other people. She enjoyed sewing and making porcelain baby dolls. Her hands were rarely still. She also shared her love for traditional English cuisine with her children and grandchildren and turned us all into tea drinkers.
For over 30 years Patricia worked for Pasadena Independent School District as a Crossing Guard. It suited her servant heart. She loved seeing the generations of children walking to school and handing out little gifts at holiday time. She would often recall funny things they would do or say but most important to her were their hugs and how they fondly called her “Ms. Pat”.
Patricia touched many people’s lives with her kind hearted nature and had developed especially long lasting friendships with James Weitekamp, JoLynn and Wes Sallee, and their daughters Miranda and Brenna.
She was a devote Catholic and did her best to live life by her favorite religious motto “What Would Jesus Do?” She would often give her last ten dollar bill to a stranger because they needed it more than her. She would befriend anybody and never made an enemy.
Patricia is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Jackie Dykes, daughter Deborah Dykes, daughter Karen Stough, son-in-law Noel Seal, sister Mary Nicolodi, sister Janet Brennan, and brother Dennis Farrell.
Patricia is survived by her daughter Gail Seal, son Sean Dykes, daughter and wife Janice and Ashley Childers-Dykes, and son-in-law Carroll Stough; grandchildren Christopher Seal, Joshua and Amanda Leigh Seal, Ryan and Eric Stough, Robyn Grace, and Finley Childers-Dykes; five great grandchildren CJ, Sofia, Jaylon, Brendyn and Cory; three Godchildren Travis, Tony, and Tempie Smith along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 21st from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena. Patricia’s funeral mass will take place on Friday May 22nd at 10:00am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park. Her body will be laid to rest in the Bethany Cemetery immediately following the mass.
