JAMES "DAVID" KNOWLES

James David Knowles, age 75, of Seaford, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Lewes, DE, on September 23, 1943, to the late William and Bessie (Archibald [sic]) Knowles. Raised in Blades [Sussex Co.], he graduated Class of 1962 Seaford High School.

David's work career started young as a milk and paper delivery boy in the Seaford and Blades area; and later in his teens he worked at Peebles. After graduation, he began working with the DuPont Company in Seaford before being drafted in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Through the years, he worked for Safeway, UPS, and had 25 years with the US Postal Service retiring from the Seaford Branch in 2009. After retirement, you would see David driving school and sports buses for James Lambden Bus Service.

David was a member of Blades United Methodist Church; he attended and served [Seaford's] St. John's United Methodist Church, and, up until recent months, attended and actively served Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville [Sussex Co.]. He was a true Seaford Blue Jay supporter; working football games, volunteering for the Seaford Little League; and avidly cheering on the basketball teams, especially during the time his son, Sean, coached. He also enjoyed and supported U[niversity] of D[elaware] football, Baltimore Orioles, and NASCAR. David loved the beach, bartending local events, swimming in the SGCC pool, and, most importantly, loving and caring for his beloved dog, Bessie, his constant companion.

David was a proud and loving dad, a good neighbor, and friend to many. He had a keen sense of humor, a caring demeanor, and his endearing smile and personality was infectious.

David will be missed by his son, Sean A. Knowles; his daughter, Tina L. Cercena; his children's mother and friend, Darlene Knowles, his sister, Faith Ann Willin, all of Seaford; his soulmate of many years, Margaret E. Workman of Bridgeville; his extended family Jennifer L. McPherson (Kevin); their children, Finn and Piper who called him "Pop Pop David", all of Milford; C. Colby Pusey (Krysta Lewis) of Long Neck; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Knowles.

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, May 20th, at St. John's United Methodist Church.
