Janice Marilyn Starr was born on May 20, 1935, in George, IA, the daughter of William F. and Louise M. (Rudloff) Kruse. She grew up in George and later graduated from George High School. After graduating from high school, she attended Northwestern College in Orange City, and then Westmar College in LeMars receiving her teaching degree. Janice taught school in Iowa and Nebraska for ten years.

On June 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to James Starr and after forty-nine years of marriage, Jim passed away on November 11, 2003. The first twenty years of their marriage Jim was active military, and they spent a total of six years overseas. During that time, they raised four children, Susan, Kayleen, Thomas, and Tye.

Janice was a very active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. She also was very involved with the George American Legion Auxiliary.

Janice loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially baking and playing games. She also enjoyed being involved with Kids for Christ.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Susan (Steve) Griffith of Boone, IA, Kayleen (James) Bathke of George, IA, Thomas (Lauri) Starr of George, IA, and Tye (Gretchen) Starr of Holland, MI; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mickey Kruse Arneson, Mardee Starr, and Carolee Cuperus; and nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Kruse; and her four siblings, Luetta Eberline, Roger Kruse, Merrill Kruse, and Nadine Wickersham-Krull.
