Irene Davenport, age 93, joined her heavenly family in the early morning hours of January 20, 2022. She was born March 15, 1928 in the Hells Hollow section of Fannin County.


Irene was preceded in death by her parents, James Garfield and Bettie Postelle Sosebee; her husband of 54 years, Elmer H. Davenport; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Annie (Twiggs) Sosebee, James and Wilma (Fowler) Sosebee; sisters, Bertha (Elmer) Sosebee Payne, and Ina and Francis Sosebee; son-in-law, Frankie Barker; and beloved grandchildren, Dr. Lisa Barker Galloway and Jeffrey Barker. 


She is survived by, daughters and sons-in-law, Christine D. Barker of Copperhill, Geraldine D. and Ronald Shuler of McCaysville, Shirley D. and Freddie Wright of Copperhill, and Sheila D. and Eddie Ash of McCaysville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Sharon Davenport of Kodak, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Velma Sosebee of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth and John Klamer, Amanda and William Skinner, Dr. Jon and Jenni Davenport, Brooke and Chris Pearson, Leanne and Danny Newton, Bryan Ash, Savannah and Daniel Foster, and Roy Galloway; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Brandon, Lauren, Kayla, Jeremiah, Cole, Tina, B.J., Ryan, Kimmi and Cory, Ethan, Haylee, Leia, Savannah, Leoria, Estalee, and Idabelle; great-great-grandchildren, Channing, Brintlie, and Zachary; as well as, a host of adopted grandchildren that also called her Granny Davenport or Mammaw Davenport. 


Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hipps Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Delmar Davenport officiating. The grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. Due to Covid-19, the family requests no visitation.
