Body Found by Policeman This Morning Near Kansas Avenue Bridge
Summary
A Body found in the Kaw River this morning was Grant Kier, 12-year-old, drowned yesterday afternoon near the United Zinc and Chemical plant.
Son of James Kier, a chemical mixer at the plant, was swimming with friends, who said he had dived down and did not come up, they thought he had swam further down and went home.
He was missed by his father on his return from work and learned of his death when he asked the boy’s friends. The river was dragged for several hours last night.

The body of Grant Kier, 11 years old, son of James Kier, who was drowned in the Kaw River near the United Zinc & Chemical Company yesterday was recovered from the river this morning near the Fifth Street Bridge, two miles below where he drowned. The boy was swimming with a crowd near the chemical plant when he disappeared. Other member of the swimming party told police and fireman dragged the river last night.
A fisherman near the bridge discovered it this morning. Body taken to Daniels Brothers’ undertaking rooms in the Armourdale district. Kier’s home was in a settlement near the chemical plant on the west bank of the river.

Summary
Kansas City, July 10 – Grant Kier, 11-year-old, son of James Kier, disappeared while swimming yesterday afternoon in the Kaw River near the plant of United Zinc and Chemical Company, where his father works. Firemen rowed up the river, but failed to find him last night. Grant was in the river with several boys, they did not see him go under water. They thought he had swum to an island. There are numerous “stepoffs” in the river at that point.
