Ronald Farish "Ron" Withrow
1936-2020

Ronald Farish "Ron" Withrow – 83, Bible Hill. It is with saddened hearts that we, the family of Farish "Ron" Withrow, announce his sudden passing on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Truro, he was the first child of the late Oliver Clifford and Mary Elizabeth (MacLellan) Withrow.

Ron grew up on Lyman Street in Truro and was a member of Brunswick Street United Church, attending Sunday school and Tuxes and Tyros as a boy.

He attended Truro public schools, finishing at Colchester County Academy in 1952. He loved music and dancing, played the harmonica, the spoons and enjoyed a good game of darts.

He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he excelled at aerial photography, in part because of his attention to detail. After leaving the Air Force he worked for a time in the photography field.

Over the years, a variety of jobs provided him with many different experiences. For a time, he was a guard at Dorchester Penitentiary, worked with Canadian National Railway and later with Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved the forest, the land and all animals.

Ron was predeceased by his father, Oliver (1991); mother, Mary (1980); brother-in-law, George Collier (2013); nephew, David Farish Collier (1967).

He is survived by his sister, Jean M. Collier, Lower Sackville; niece, Mary-Beth (Dean) Fancy, Lower Sackville; nephew, James Glenn (Cathy Brooks) Collier, Lower Sackville. The family wishes to thank all nurses, physicians and first responders for their expertise and their caring.

A special thanks to nurses Julia and Lindsay in the Intensive Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for your thoughtfulness, compassion, and care.

Honouring Ron's wishes, a private interment will be held in Saint Stephen’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Stanley, at a later date. If so desired, donations in Ron’s memory to Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, 2220 Irwin Lake Road, Brookfield, NS B0N 1C0 or https://cwrc.net/cms2/wp/donate/ or a charity of your choice are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro; our sincere thanks to Bruce for his guidance and support. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Ron’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
