Bobby Joe Higgins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, bus driver, and gospel singer, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the age of 70. He was born on July 8, 1949 in Sulphur Springs to Joe Pat and Billie Jean Gunn Higgins. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army for two years, one year at Ft. Lewis, Washington, and one year in Vietnam. Upon returning home, Bobby started a painting business that he would own for 30 years. For the last 13 years, he worked in transportation at Chapel Hill ISD and was named Driver of the Year in 2020.

Bobby’s first love was always singing Southern Gospel Music. He was a part of numerous quartets over the years, including Route 7 and Rose City Quartet, and his beautiful voice, lovable personality, and good-natured spirit made him a joy to be around and sing alongside. Bobby’s love for singing gospel music was second only to his love for Jesus Christ. He sang for the joy of the Lord and used his music to love and serve those who listened.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Cheryl Higgins; his son, Blain Higgins; his daughter, Melissa McFarlin and husband Craig and his sister, Patsy Tuscana. He also leaves behind two special grandsons, Carter and Case McFarlin and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Higgins and his parents, Joe Pat and Billie Higgins.

A private graveside service will be held at Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill with Rev. Gil Lain officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the future.
