Upon graduation from Competine Township High School, Farson, Iowa, he entered the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was united in marriage to Frances Stansberry on September 14, 1946. Arthur briefly attended Parsons College before moving with his young family to Sheldahl, Iowa, in 1950 to work at the John Deere factory in Ankeny.
Arthur was a soft-spoken Christian man, member of the Sheldahl United Methodist Church family and a World War II veteran. He was married to Frances for 69 years, the father of six, and a John Deere welder for over 35 years. He loved fishing Big Creek Lake with Frances and family members and using his computer to keep up on current events and stay in touch with family.
As Arthur's health started to diminish at age 93, he moved from the family home of nearly 70 years to The Lakeside Village, Panora.
It was Arthur's humble, practical, and thoughtful nature that enabled him to reach the end of his life in peace and dignity, a dad's final gift to his children and their families.
Arthur is survived by daughter, Marcia (Pat); sons, Cliff (Herminia); Rex (Bill); Lyle; and Rudy (Else’); 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and sister, Martha. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Frances, and daughter, Bonnie Allen.
