William Daniel Rushing was born to William Aaron Rushing and Margarett A. O'Brien. Two separate sources, Military records and Family Data records show that he was born in 1880 and 1881 respectively.
At the age of 19, he married Hettie Olivia Barron on 30 September 1899, in Pike, Mississippi.
In 1918, he married Perla May Stewart.
In 1919, he married Addie Marie Harlan.

Services for William D. Rushing of 100 East Dempster, retired car repairman for the Illinois Central Railroad, will be held at National Funeral Home at 3:30 this afternoon. Burial will be in Tylertown, Miss. Mr. Rushing died at St. Joseph Hospital at 6:45 last night after a long illness. He was 67. Born in Tylertown, Mr. Rushing lived at McComb, Miss., before coming to Memphis in 1922. He retired in 1946. Mr. Rushing was a member of the Union Baptist Church at Tylertown and attended the South Side Church of the Nazarene. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Addie Harlan Rushing; three sons, Andrew and W.D. Rushing Jr. of Memphis, and the Rev. J.G. Rushing of Sylacauga, Ala.; five daughters, Miss Addie Ruth Rushing, Mrs. Clara Little, Mrs. Allyne Chapman, Mrs. Gertrude Sears and Mrs. Ada Womack, all of Memphis; four brothers, Z.C. Rushing, C.E. Rushing, Jasper Rushing and Jodie Rushing, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Griffin and Mrs. Mary Martin, all of Tylertown. (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on Jul 11, 1948)
