Gilbert Rutschilling age 91, passed away at 1:30 AM on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born September 18, 1928 to the late Lawrence & Rose (Henke) Rutschilling in Osgood, Ohio. He is survived by brothers: Elmer & Doris Rutschilling, Osgood, twin brother Wilbert & Norma Rutschilling, St. Henry, Leroy & Doris Rutschilling, St. Henry, sisters: Bernadette & Jerry Kemper, Osgood, Rosanne & Robert Schoen, Montezuma, Connie Fullenkamp, Montezuma and numerous nieces nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters: Esther & Norbert Puthoff, Norma & Roman Huelskamp and brother-in-law Aloys Fullenkamp. Gilbert lost his sight at an early age but that did not stop his passion for adventure. Having to learn both English and Braille at the same time did not stop him from graduating from the OSU school for the blind. He started a chicken farm and sold the eggs and went back to school and started a vending business. He enjoyed retirement with a never-ending smile and by walking miles around Maria Stein. He never saw people wave to him or motion to him to cross the street as many people can attest to. The only thing he loved more than his walks and listening to nature was listening to baseball games, most of the time he would listen to 2 or 3 of them simultaneously. He also loved playing cards with family and friends and seldom missed a chance to playing even after being injured by running into the side of a moving van. Never selfish person Gilbert has donated his body to science. Maybe we will not be able to see him again, but now he can see us. If you have an interesting story or pictures to share about Gilbert please send them to Ben Huelskamp 1877 Kremer Rd. Maria Sein, OH 45860. A memorial service will be held at a later date where stories will be shared. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hogenkamp Funeral Home Minster. Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com. HAVE A GOD DAY.
